☆♥*♥☆ Long Snows Moon~Elk ☆♥*♥☆

In Native American Astrology, those born from November 22nd~December 21st are born under the Long Snows Moon and their animal totem is the Elk. Their color is black and obsidian is their totem in the mineral kingdom. Obsidian is a type of volcanic glass that is usually shiny like glass. It has razor-sharp edges and therefore should always be “handled carefully.Obsidian was used in carvings and for jewelry as well as for mirrors. It was also crafted for use in arrowheads. Because obsidian comes from deep within the earth it is said to be grounding.

Believed to be an intense metaphysical stone which should always be used with care, Obsidian is best used under the guidance of a trained crystal healer. As a "glass" it is inherently "unstable".  As a protective stone, its power lies in its ability to absorb and transform negative energies.

Fractures, Mt. Etna, Sicily
Elk people are very similar to the properties of obsidian. They can be good mirrors for other people as well as “projecting their stuff” onto others. They are often rough around the edges or difficult to get to know because of an uneven outer surface. Elk people can be very protective of those they love or from “perceived” danger. “They try to get as many cows as they can into their harem, and they will fervently defend them from the approaches of any other male” (Sun Bear and Wabun).

Elk are introspective and clairvoyant.  Incredibly strong and elegant, they are perhaps one of the most regal in the deer family. Men of this totem are competitive with each other about the women in their lives.  They may be prone to fits of rage or jealousy that may come as a surprise to those close to them.

Are you an Elk person?  How does Elk energy resonate with you?

☆♥*♥☆ Ducks Fly Moon~Libra ☆♥*♥☆

(c) Lorraine Valente
In Native American Astrology, individuals born from September 23~October 22nd are born under the Ducks Fly Moon and are Raven people. Born under the Butterfly elemental clan, as Gemini and Aquarius, their mineral gemstone is Bloodstone Jasper.

Bloodstone Jasper is known for its magical properties to stop hemorrhaging/bleeding and provide the owner with a long life. It is believed that it strengthens the blood cells and helps bring oxygen to the blood stream. When Bloodstone Jasper is worn it is said to provide its wearer protection over bad spirits and to allow him to cast spells upon others. It is also worn to protect against snake bites. Associated with the root chakra, it is said to enhance spirituality and intuition.

Raven people, when they have not found their balance, may fly from one mood to another. As we know, this kind of mood fluctuation can cause depression in some. Raven people who have found balance in their lives may utilize their intuitive, psychic powers to help others find their own point of balance.  Raven are also quite versatile with an ability to shift and change. They possess the ability to mediate or smooth over discord in their surroundings and are adept in assisting others in the same. Offering graceful assistance, they are also capable of making others feel soothed and welcome.

Individuals born under Raven tend to be intelligent and capable of soaring from one position to another rather quickly. These are people who are both comfortable on the Earth and in the sky; the material and spiritual plane. They do tend to be group oriented and enjoy the mutual support and cooperation from others. Raven people often mate for life, however, there are actually more who never do. They find it difficult to make a decision about the relationship and frequently change their mind about whether or not they have chosen the “right” partner. By the time they do decide, so much time has passed that the other person has moved on. Harmony is important to the Raven and they abhor confrontations.

As part of the Butterfly elemental clan, these individuals are always changing and fluttering around. They are in constant motion, emotionally, physically, and intellectually. They are a whirling, twirling bundle of energy and can bring the much needed breathe of fresh air into any situation. Butterflies possess tremendous powers of regeneration, and transformation.  The Chinese believe butterfly to symbolize immortality and joy while butterfly is symbolized as the psyche or the soul in Greek art.

Do you resonate with Butterfly or Raven energy?

In Native American Astrology, those born from July 22~August 23rd are born during the Ripe Berries Moon and belong to the Thunderbird Clan. Your plant totem is the Raspberry and their animal totem is the Sturgeon. Are you familiar with the sturgeon?

A sturgeon is a really big fish….actually…it is the KING of fishes! It’s a very old and ancient fish that surfaced around the years just after the dinosaurs. Beneath the surface, Sturgeon people are usually very sensitive. They hide this well underneath their great big smile. Leo's keen intuition and perceptions allow them to sense feelings of others.  As a result, they are easily hurt.

Sturgeon
The color for this sign is red, associated with the heart, blood and their gemstone, the Garnet. Garnet is believed to have the vibrational power to balance sexual energies. The color red may also symbolize erratic action, excessive pride, sensuality and sexuality, greed and selfishness for those less evolved Leo/Sturgeon folk, tending to develop nervous system problems during their life.

☆♥*♥☆Frogs Return Moon ☆♥*♥☆

Frogs Return Moon (Beaver)

In Native American Astrology, those born from April 21~May 20th are born under the Frogs Return Moon and their animal totem is the Beaver. Their color is blue and their totem in the mineral kingdom is the chrysocolla, similar to the turquoise.

The chrysocolla ranges from green to blue green and sports a glassy luster. It is often used for adornment in the form of jewelry. It is considered to be of medicinal value that will bring health, lower infections and detroxify, offer peace, and luck to the wearer. It's also a gemstone used to attract "love".

The blue camas is a plant that was a staple food for the Native Americans in many parts of the United States. When the flower of the plant was in bloom they would dig up the bulb for food. Beaver people are conscious of beauty and practicality at the same time. The camas bulb contains insulin, a complex sugar. Blue camas was eaten regularly by Native people to keep the blood sugar level in balance.

Beaver people combine within themselves the powers of the Earth and Skies. It is important for Beaver people, who often remain too rooted in thoughts at the Earth level, to look up to the sky and to incorporate spiritual lessons offered there.

Beaver is the builder and doer of the animal kingdom. They have a strong sense of family. It is important for Beaver people to constantly grow towards their spirituality, as they will tend towards becoming stuck at the material level.

☆♥*♥☆ Budding Trees Moon ☆♥*♥☆

by Lorraine Valente

Budding Trees Moon (Red Hawk)

In Native American Astrology, those born from March 21~April 20th are born under the Budding Trees Moon and their animal totem is the Red Hawk. Their color is yellow and their totem in the mineral kingdom is the fire opal. This Moon is part of the Thunderbird clan.

The fire opal is similar to quartz and is found in sedimentary rock and in cavities in volcanic rock. Opal comes in a variety of lustres and hues and sports a glassy to waxy luster. The opal has been used by Native people since very early times. It is considered to be a stone of hope and was thought to render the wearer invisible when he or she did not wish to be seen.

Just like the opal, Red Hawk people can often be found near hot spots or places of pressure. They are open to new ideas and show an enthusiastic spark of interest to vital new information presented to them. They are catalysts and messengers, capable of making any new idea into a reality. Because they are born under the Budding Trees Moon, they are bursting with new life, energy and intuition. Hawk has an ability to hover and can suspend itself in midair. Because of aerodynamics, hawk's energy is efficient. Hawk is also known for its speed and endurance. Hawk medicine is also associated with thunder and lightening, and like the Tower in the tarot deck, may indicate turbulent change.

Being born under this Moon brings intuitive hunches, flashes of insight, and philosophical growth to people born under its sign. The message is to notice and pay attention to signals and signs. Don't allow emotions to cloud judgment.

☆♥*♥☆ Earth Renewal Moon ☆♥*♥☆

by Lorraine Valente

Earth Renewal Moon (Snow Goose)

Gemini Lunar Eclipse~12/21/10
New Jersey
In Native American Astrology, those born from December 22nd~January 19th are born under the Earth Renewal Moon and their animal totem is the Snow Goose. Their color is white and quartz is their totem in the mineral kingdom. Quartz is a fairly hard mineral and comes in a variety of smoky pastel colors. Quartz is a power stone and has the ability to transmit and receive energy through it. Similiar to quartz, the Snow Goose has the ability to transmit and receive great powers to and from the Universe. They have the ability to see clearly as long as they don't become too hard and attached in their views or philosophies.

Geese inspire protection.  They have no problem defending themselves against a predator twice their size when they feel threatened!  The expression "Goose Bumps" is (unfortunately) the way their skin appears when feathers are plucked.  Many fearful people experience goose bumps when they are afraid.  Sometimes goose bumps form when experiencing an intuitive knowing or psychic awareness.

If you've ever seen Snow Geese flying overhead, they form a V shape with the adult female as lead goose. Each goose helps to break the air by those who follow. They make quite an impression with their “honking” and flight precision.

Our greatest pretenses are built up not to hide the evil and the ugly in us, but our emptiness. The hardest thing to hide is something that is not there. ~ Eric Hoffer, 1902-1983
