☆♥*♥☆ Vesta~Sacred Virgin ☆♥*♥☆

Vesta~Asteroid Goddess of Fire, Sacred Virgin, Sister to Ceres
Discovery Date: March 29, 1807

Keywords: Service, Fire, Lamp, Dedication, Commitment, Career or Causes, Focus, Hearth, Dungeon, Basements, Detachment, Kundalini energy, Rituals and Initiations, Fertility, Promiscuity, Celibacy, Teacher or Scholar, Tradition, Contracts, Keeper of Esoteric Wisdom, Sacrifice, Altars and Ceremonial objects, Work commitments, Alternate sexual behaviors, Working to compensate for life's disappointments, Conservation and Safety, Transmute sexual energy for Enlightenment and Liberation.

Romans utilized her eternal fire and chose the Virgins at the age of six (6), before the Saturn square. According to Wikipedia (2010), "the Vestals were committed to the priesthood at a young age (before puberty) and were sworn to celibacy for a period of 30 years. These 30 years were, in turn, divided into three periods of a decade each: ten as students, ten in service, and ten as teachers. Afterwards, they could marry if they chose to do so. However, few took the opportunity to leave their respected role in those luxurious surroundings. Leaving would have also required them to submit to the authority of a man, with all the restrictions placed on women by Roman law." Ironically, when a man married a former Vestal, it was considered a high honor.

A similar myth comes from pre-Hellenistic Greece. The sacred flame guarded by the priestesses symbolized the Kundalini fires of Indian Yoga practice and the secret powers of sexual alchemy. The women tending to the fires were known as Virgins, yet not because they were sexually chaste, because they remained unmarried and belong to no man. There wasn't a desire to be defined or controlled by any man. (don’t you love it??) “Ms. Vesta” was way before her time; perhaps the first woman’s rights activist!
Well, these “virgins” actually served as sacred harlots who sexually gave themselves to strangers. They didn’t use their sexuality to attract a man to marry, or to satisfy their own needs, but to serve a higher purpose through the process of fertilization. They provided a “service” by either servicing males' sexual needs or for the desire to bear a child out of wedlock.  Since the Vestal Virgins were of Queen-like status, the "seeds" planted were a sacred union. Male children born from this union were considered “Kings”.  Author-Astrologer Demetra George, “Asteroid Goddesses", asserts that “Latin Kings were born of a virgin mother with no known father or to be the son of the God. In fact, many of the Kings of early Rome were the sons of Vestal Virgins”.
Click here for more info: Vestal  VirginFast forward to 2011. Childless couples hire sexual surrogates, for a fee, to conceive children and birth children. Are there not male prostitutes too? In our culture, it has become commonplace to collect sperm from hired donor males for artificial insemination. Actually, artificial insemination dates back to the early 1900's. Researchers concur that male fertility starts to decline as he enters his mid-30s and is significantly lower if he is over 40. Studies also concluded that if the father was in his late 30s, the chances of a successful pregnancy went down. The father's age also affected rates of miscarriage. If a father was over age 34, the miscarriage rate was 16.7 percent. Between the ages of 35 and 39, it went up to 19.5 percent. And if the father was older than 44, it jumped to 32.4 percent; which means nearly one-third of the pregnancies ended in miscarriages.
Research suggests problems were likely the result of DNA damage and fragmentation in sperm, which can lead to pregnancy failure and miscarriage. Dr. Peter Schlegel, chairman of urology at the Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York, works at the Male Center for Reproductive Medicine. In an News interview he stated the possibility that there is a link between DNA damage and age. "As men get older, there is an increase in the risk of having that fragmented DNA," Schlegel explained. Alternately, research indicates higher incidents of learning disorders, autism, and schizophrenia conceived by men over the age of 37 years, even when the age of the of the mother was controlled for.  These new studies are highly significant given the increase of conception in 2nd and 3rd marriages later in life, particularly since older men tend to marry a younger child-bearing, fertile female. Given these dramatic fertility statistics, questions arise about the quality of sperm and then...... "Sperm for hire"~! I am aware of at least one individual who was a sperm donor for pay, in order to pay for his doctorate degree.  This example demonstrates how Vesta might operate in a male chart.

The location of Vesta in the natal signifies withdrawals, where you withdraw when you have depleted resources, where energy is focused, a variety of possible sexual expressions, where you're devoted, where there is the ability to delay gratification or where gratification is denied. If Vesta is strong in your natal, you may engage in sexual encounters with a variety of partners, perhaps to avoid long-term commitment or alternately, commiting only to an alternative relatonship lifestyle, since monogamy is not a natural human state. Vesta points to the area of life you feel most liberated, where your fire shines brightly, where you're committed.

Sweat Lodge
As a career indicator, Vesta by sign, house, and aspect points to the principle of focused energy, concentrated efforts, commitment, and sacrifice. For instance, Vesta in Cancer is literally dedicated to maintaining the family home fires.  Starting a home business is likely. Alternately, sacrificing personal needs due to family responsibilities is possible. Demetra George expands upon Vesta in Cancer stating that individuals with this placement "require the feeling of  being needed in order to activate commitment.  Sexual fulfillment comes from the feeling of being loved and cherished". For example, eighth house Vesta individuals may be the "Psychic", dedicated to occult studies or psychoanalysis. A strong Vesta individual may be the Physical Therapist, expert on Sexuality and/or Tantric practices, Psychologist, or even Funeral Director! A ninth house Vesta individual may be dedicated to truth-seeking, religious or political fanaticism, and teaching. The 9th house Vesta individual may, alternately, be a spiritual Guru or University Professor. Since Vesta may be linked to the sign of Virgo, look to the natal house where Virgo resides for additional career clues.
Vesta's archetype sounds vaguely similar to our modern day prostitutes and new age Tantra Sex Therapists. Sacred sex, teacher/student, or prostitution? You decide. What messages resonate with your own sexual nature? How may society utilize Vesta's mythological symbolism to transcend social, and cultural taboos and norms surrounding sexuality, patriarchy, relationships, and monogamy? Our culture is being primed by Universal energies, to experience a "shift" in consciousness.  The relationship dynamic of "ownership" and sexual inequality no longer work. We live in unique times with the ability to change the course of relationship as we know it.

You don’t belong to no one…that’s a shame.
You could hide beside me…maybe for a while.
…and I won’t tell no one your name.  ~ Goo Goo Dolls~Name
Transiting Vesta is currently retrograde at 8 degrees Aquarius,in a separating square from Jupiter  at 10 degrees Taurus. She's also separting from a trine to Juno in Libra ♎ further validating a focused commitment to setting standards and developing a balanced approach in relationships.  Relationship changes are imminent. If you want to know where Vesta resides in your birth chart, I'm available for consultations and readings 7 days via phone, e-mail or Skype.

☆♥*♥☆ Happy Birthday Virgo♍ ☆♥*♥☆

Happy Birthday Virgo the Virgin! to those born between August 23~September 22!

Key Phrase for Virgo is “
I Analyze”

Nature is:
Barren

Mercury rules the signs of Virgo and Gemini and generally presdisposes the individual toward a high-strung temperament, even though they may appear rather reserved.  Virgo symbolizes how information is processed, analyzed, and digested, the mental faculties.  Virgo resides in the 6th house of the natural zodiac. The 6th house demonstrates day-to-day work, being of service to others, aunts and uncles, small pets, people who work for or report to you, and health issues.

Virgo’s can be rather discriminating, conscientiousness, perfectionist, preoccupied with order and neatness, and possibly hyper critical. The Virgin easily adheres to routine tasks and is known for the ability to assimilate, analyze, and categorize facts. The Virgin represents purity, logic, modesty and the desire to serve. This mutable (changeable) earth (grounded) sign is one of the most sensual signs of the zodiac and is rather fond of all that implies. If you want to get the job done on time and exactly right the first time around, hire a Virgo. Virgo’s love to help, and being of service to another is their greatest joy. Virgo’s possess a strong desire to be of service to others.

Virgo is generally health conscious. Diet and nutrition is important, and if food doesn't "look" good or smell just right, it won't be eaten! Virgo's have the ability to sustain effort doing the same task over and over again.  Therefore, working out, athletics, and exercise isn't a problem for this sign.  Virgo is also associated with the large and small intestines, the nervous system and the solar plexus energy center.  On the
physical plane, the solar plexus is the 3rd chakra, corresponding to the color yellow, and to the stomach, liver, small intestine, bloodsugar, and digestion. Food allergies, colitis, constipation, gastrointestinal problems, hypochondria, stress-related ulcers and other allergic reactions are possible. On a mental-emotional energy level, the solar plexus corresponds to ones beliefs, balancing your will with the will of others, details, efficiency, perfectionism, and criticism.
Virgo’s polar opposite (6th house~work, people who work for you, aunts and uncles,  and small pets) is the mutable, water sign Pisces (12th house~hospitals, institutions, unconscious, dream life, charities and compassionate service). Work, service, practical details, swimming illusive fantasies and denial, music, the unconscious, dreams are some areas of life for Virgo, also contingent upon other areas of the birth chart.
Cleome (c)
When under stress each sign may operate through the most negative characteristics of their polar opposite, the sign 180 degrees opposite itself. When under stress, Virgo may become wishy-washy, self sacrificing, indecisive, hypercritical of self and others, and very impractical and disorganized, similar to emotional, self-effacing Pisces, ruled by illusive, dreamy Neptune. Healthy boundaries are a must to protect the Self from others who take advantage of helping Virgo/Pisces. Soaking in Epsom Salt cleanses the auric energy field of the sticky, negative energy others.

☆♥*♥☆Pisces/Virgo Relationships☆♥*♥☆

by Lorraine Valente

The Pisces/Virgo ~Ascendant/Descendant
Relationship Axis (1st house/7th house)

Knowing your partners 7th house cusp (the relationship house) and the ruler of that house will indicate the type of partner you may attract or are attracted to and the method of relating within a relationship.

The Ascendant, or Rising sign, is the sign rising on the horizon at the time of birth. This is the face we show the world, the “mask” behind which the Sun hides. This is the outer personality, temperament and disposition as well as how the early early home life was experienced and the environment  we grew up in. It is the way others see us and also indicates the physical appearance. The ruler of the Ascendant and the aspects (connections to other planets in your birth chart) further delineate and define physical appearance.

The Descendant, or 7th house cusp, its ruler and the aspects it makes in your birth chart, is symbolic of the type of partner you are attracted to. The 7th house is the house of all partnerships including marriage and legal contracts yet also considered the house of open enemies or the Defendant in a law suit.

Whatever we do not own in ourselves we tend to attract the negative qualities or shadow through the 7th house. In relationships, Pisces♓ has Neptune as the modern ruler and with benefic Jupiter as the ancient ruler. If you have a Pisces Ascendant, you appear mercurial and may have a naïve disposition. You may be more spiritual than most. Because you are a mutable sign, although you are flexible indecisiveness if possible. Physical appearance is soft and gentle. Artistic expression is a must and you have an active fantasy life. Because you're  a mutable sign, there are moments of ambivalence, indecisiveness and ever changing your mind. Worry, self deception and denial is possible. Pisces rising folks tend to have sensual lips and very large, soft eyes. With Mercury☿ ruled Virgo♍ on the Descendant you seek a methodical, practical, articulate partner. Mutual sharing and communication within any partnership is absolutely critical to you. You desire intelligence and refinement in a partner. Attraction to a partner with those qualities who is organized and analytical as well as being health conscious is possible.

☆♥*♥☆ Mercury Retrograde Alert! ☆♥*♥☆

by Lorraine Valente

Dear Stargazers...

Gemini and Virgo ruled Mercury turns retrograde (apparent backward motion) tomorrow, Friday, December 10th at 7:04 Eastern, for 3 1/2 weeks in the sign of Capricorn, then backing up to Sagittarius.

What can we experience? Disruptions in communications, forgetfulness, electronic mishaps, the fax you sent didn't go through even though you re-ceived a confirmation re-ceipt, travel delays, re-turn of the "exe's". Yes, it's true, people who you thought were out of your life forever, suddenly return with something more to say, or re-veal. Sometimes past lovers "re-concile" after "re-evaluating" their "re-lationship" when Mercury backs up.

How to best handle Mercury rx? It's best to not make major decisions or sign important contracts, purchase new electrical equipment or shoes. If you absolutely must make decisions, do so on contingency and read all legal documents at least 3 times! Back up important computer documents and be mindful of yours and others words and actions.

Here are some keywords for Mercury rx:

Re-vival, re-pair, re-vise, re-turn, re-word, re-phrase, re-ctify, re-voke, re-newal, re-birth, re-view, re-late, re-lationships, re-alization, re-conciliation, re-moval (of negativity, outmoded ideas, etc.), re-visit, re-vamp, re-novate, re-do, re-juvenate, re-flect, re-generate, re-ceive, and most importantly, re-lax!

2010 Mercury Retrogrades:

August 1, 2010: Mercury entered the pre-shadow at 05 degrees Virgo.

August 20, 2010: Mercury retrogrades (rx) at 19 degrees Virgo.

September 12, 2010: Mercury turns direct at 05 degrees Virgo.

December 10, 2010: Mercury retrogrades at 05 degrees Capricorn.

December 30, 2010: Mercury turns direct at 19 degrees Sagittarius.

"Coincidentally" when Mercury turned direct at 05 degrees of Capricorn on January 15, 2010, it was conjunct the degree of the June 26, 2010 Partial Lunar Eclipse! Mercury retrogrades again tomorrow, December 10th, also at 5 degrees of Capricorn. Mercury's associated symbolism has been prominent during the year and for these dynamic Eclipse cycles. The 5th degree would have been triggered by these important planetary energies in your own birth chart!

Where is 5 degrees in your birth chart?  If you want to learn more about this topic and others, schedule a phone, or e-mail consultation at Fuchsiastars@aol.com. I'm also available via Skype and Facebook.

Have a wonderful weekend...

☆♥*♥☆ Relationship Needs in the Birth Chart ☆♥*♥☆

by Lorraine Valente

Relationship Needs in the Birth Chart~Other Oriented versus Self Oriented

The astrological chart is designed like a pizza, sliced into 12 cut pieces. If we cut the pie/chart in the center from left (East) to right (West) (the reverse directions from Earth) the Ascendant/Descendant relationship axis is formed. The East is your personal needs and the West would be the needs of the relationship or partner. When the chart is divided from bottom, North, center (IC) to the top, South, center (MC) the 4th house/10th house axis of home versus work and private versus public needs is formed. Divisions of the chart hemispheres indicated above determines whether you are more “relationship” oriented or more “Self” oriented. Planets located in the Western portion of the chart are relationship and ”Other” oriented. These are the natural house signs of Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio and Sagittarius. Planets located in the Eastern hemisphere of the chart are more “Self” oriented. These natural house signs are (Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces, Aries, Taurus and Gemini). Ideally, it's best to have a balance of planets in both hemispheres as this indicates a healthy approach to relating and the natural ability to meet your own needs in love, relationships and personal growth, and also meeting your partners desires for the same.

When a majority of planets reside in the Western hemisphere, this person might not have enough self confidence to take a stand in a relationship. Co-dependency may exist when the needs of the partner take precedence over the need to take care of self, even when it may be inappropriate to care for the other. This is also called enabling, doing for another that they can do for themselves.

An individual having a majority of planets in the Western hemisphere may feel more insecure or lack confidence in relating, always considering the other first, again, even when it is detrimental to do so. This person may become overly involved in the lives of others leaving no room left for themselves. A person could also be the one that everyone asks favors of, is taken advantage of, and who doesn’t know how to say “no” because of the need to feel needed or for ego validation.  This individual needs to learn to set healthy boundaries in all relationships.

However, if those planets are mostly in the masculine planets of fire and air, this can produce extreme impatience when the personal needs are thwarted or not immediately gratified. This person could be demanding, selfish or unrealistic about what to expect from others. For instance, a fire/air man may be extremely charming and suave yet controlling, demanding, and judgmental. He may have difficulty expressing anger in a healthy way, negatively impacting romantic relationships.

A preponderance of fixed signs in a chart, 3 or more major planets, Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius lends to imbalance when there is an inability to change and only want things their way. A balanced fixed chart has the ability to follow through, is open-mined and dependable and not easily influenced by negative influences of others. Mutable folks, Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces are so indecisive they may constantly change plans or commitments.  Cardinal folks, Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn possess a desire and enthusiasm to make things happen, achieve, and accomplish a lot in a short amount of time. Negatively, they may start too many projects and not complete them all.

Having the majority of planets in the Eastern hemisphere would show a person who is overly independent. These people are so interested in having their own needs and desires met they may not even be aware that their partners desires are not being met by them. It is so important to be able to tell the person we love and are involved with how we feel about them and know they are genuinely concerned about us. When there are hemisphere imbalances between a two people, this may be a source of conflict.

Eastern hemisphere people rarely turn to others for help. There is a level of pride in their independence. It can be very difficult to achieve true emotional intimacy with a person who has an overwhelming number of planets in the East.

Now, if we return to the Ascendant/Descendant axis and look at all the planets above this axis, the horizon, these planets are public.  Planets below this axis are private. Planets above the horizon have a need to express and share their ideas, thoughts, and philosophies publicly; they are more visible.  Planets below the horizon are less inclined to want center stage and are "introverted" or more reserved requiring privacy while planets above the horizon are "extroverted" desiring expression out into the World.

A high level of emotional maturity can overcome and mitigate challenging natal energies. The ability to "confront" and express both positive and negative emotions in a health manner fosters intimacy and connectedness.  In fact, a lack of confrontation actually destroys relationships because problems that aren't discussed are denied and pushed under the surface, fester, then undermine the connection.  Knowing which hemisphere your partner’s planets are located illuminates characteristic relating behaviors and aids in personal growth.

☆♥*♥☆ New Moon~Virgo☆♥*♥☆

by Lorraine Valente

Dear Stargazers...

The upcoming New Moon on September 8th, arrives at 6:30am on the East coast.  This New Moon is in the sign of Virgo (15 degrees), energetically connected to the planet of communication, Mercury, who is in the process of completing his 3 + week apparent backward motion.  On September 12th, Mercury turns direct at 05 degrees Virgo.

A Placidus chart cast for 6:30am on the East coast has Virgo Rising, with Mercury retreating in the 12th house.  The Part of Fortune connects with the Ascendant, also at 14 degrees Virgo.  The Sun and Moon follow at 15 degrees with healing Hygeia at 25 degrees Virgo.  That's a lot of Virgoan energy connected with a retrograde Mercury!

This New Moon, though, involves reflection. It's about discerning mixed messages and tuning into, attending to, intuitive hunches and signals, particularly their effect on the mind-body connection.  Thoughts and perceptions influence mood and, in turn, health.  We can talk, or think, our way into excellent health, pain, or illness. Meditation, quieting the mind, is helpful because you don’t have to think of anything at all. The mind relaxes and so the body, aiding in self-healing.

This New Moon reminds me of The Hermit symbolism. The Hermit represents a person who is a teacher of the true meaning of life and who is a spiritual guide. He stands alone and is isolated. He is cloaked in a gray (wisdom) robe, head down, eyes closed, looking within. He holds an illuminated lamp in his right hand held out and up to the sky, as if guiding him on a path. The light inside of the lamp is in the shape of a star. In his left hand, a golden staff is held representing intelligence. The Hermit lights the way for others who have lost their way. When Hermit appears there is a need to shed light on a situation in order to heal. Since light casts shadows, it also encourages us to deal with contradictions within, including those of the shadow self. Virgo assimilates spiritual knowledge including the desire to serve.  The Hermit suggests you blend critical thinking with intuition. Good advice and pure intentions are indicated. You must persevere to achieve a particular goal. Look within for guidance. Introspection, attainment and realizing your purpose is possible.

Because Mercury leads this upcoming New Moon, the sabian symbol for 6 degrees Virgo is "A Merry-go-Round".  Isn't that a wonderful symbol for a retrograde Mercury!  The Merry-go-Round goes around, and around, and around and is thrilling and exciting yet, how many have been dizzy, temporarily losing balance once it has stopped? This symbol speaks of possibly placing ones life on hold to enjoy a moment, or re-verting or re-peating emotional experiences.  Seven (7) degrees Virgo is "A Harem" speaks of women working together or, alternately, being lost in the crowd.

"Kissing"~Alex Gray
Then, 5  hours after the New Moon, Venus enters passionate Scorpio.  Emotions intensify in the Scorpion, heating up to memories of 9-1-1, September 11th, the day before Mercury turns direct.  Let's re-member those who lost their lives on that day, and those who survived as well as who fought, served, and helped to protect all of us.  This New Moon in Virgo reminds us that when we serve "another", we serve everyone, including ourselves. It's a win-win situation. It is no coincidence that the Moon and Venus embrace in a cosmic "kiss" on the morning of September 11th!

"Let there be peace on Earth"...

3 days before the New Moon  on September 8th is the balsamic phase. This phase is also called the Wishing Moon..............

Make a Wish, Blow a Kiss to the Universe~!
Namaste'

Enjoy your day and remember, I'm available for consultations and readings 7 days via phone, e-mail or in-person.

☆♥*♥☆Vesta~Asteroid Goddess☆♥*♥☆

The Sacred Virgin is symbol for lovely Asteroid Goddess Vesta, also known as Hestia by the Greeks, relating to the sign Virgo. Vesta was worshipped as Goddess of the hearth and keeper of the sacred flame. She placed a shrine at the center of every home, similar to our modern day fireplaces or Native American sweat lodge pits, where loved ones gather around; friends and family have the opportunity to bond.
She is the brightest of asteroids and is the only one who can be seen with the naked eye. How fitting for one who is guardian of sacred fires. Since Vesta was chosen to guard and protect these sacred flames, she came to symbolize food, shelter, hospitality, and social contacts. She provided a sanctuary of protection.

The Romans utilized her eternal fire and chose the Virgins at the age of six (6), before the Saturn square.

The woman who tended to these fires were known as Virgins, yet not because they were sexually chaste, because they remained unmarried and belong to no man. There wasn't a desire to be defined or controlled by any man. (don’t you love it??) “Ms. Vesta” was way before her time; perhaps the first woman’s rights activist!
