Mythology of Ares/Mars♂

The Greek God Ares’ domain was war, combat and battle. He was the son of Zeus (Jupiter) and Hera (Juno). Ares was feared by most folk becuase violence and battle for his own sake “turned him on”. His own sister Athene calls him a “thing of rage, made of evil, a two-faced liar” (1). However, when the God of War is wounded or defeated in battle he flies angrily to Mt. Olympus to complain to his father who tells him: "Don’t whine at me, you two-faced liar. To me, you are the most hateful of all the gods on Olympus. Wars, fights and quarrels are dear to your heart” (1).

The Romans called him Mars♂ and he was considered a heroic God. In the birth chart, Mars points to your warrior spirit. Mars♂ demonstrates how you take action and what area of life you operate most quickly and independently. Sexual energy is implicit in the study of Mars. He is the proverbial male or masculine archetype. Mars♂ position, its aspects to other planets, and the house (s) it rules show where and how you exert your energy and force. It shows how you initiate the sexual act and provides clues to your sexual nature. Mars is the ancient ruler Scorpio♏ with the modern ruler being Pluto♇. Pluto♇ indicates unconscious and psychological complexes while Mars pushes this to the surface of consciousness and initiates action into the world. When Pluto and Mars aspect each other in the chart, sexual nature is significantly heightened, intensified and enduring. Individuals with Mars aspecting Pluto may be muscular or quite physically strong and excel in athletics.

Vesta~Asteroid Goddess of Fire, Sacred Virgin, Sister to Ceres

The Sacred Virgin is symbol for lovely Asteroid Goddess Vesta, also known as Hestia by the Greeks, relating to the sign Virgo. Vesta was worshipped as Goddess of the hearth and keeper of the sacred flame. She placed a shrine at the center of every home, similar to our modern day fireplaces or Native American sweat lodge pits, where loved ones gather around; friends and family have the opportunity to bond. 
She is the brightest of asteroids and is the only one who can be seen with the naked eye. How fitting for one who is guardian of sacred fires. Since Vesta was chosen to guard and protect these sacred flames, she came to symbolize food, shelter, hospitality, and social contacts. She provided a sanctuary of protection.

The Romans utilized her eternal fire and chose the Virgins at the age of six (6), before the Saturn square. According to Wikipedia (2010), "the Vestals were committed to the priesthood at a young age (before puberty) and were sworn to celibacy for a period of 30 years. These 30 years were, in turn, divided into three periods of a decade each: ten as students, ten in service, and ten as teachers. Afterwards, they could marry if they chose to do so. However, few took the opportunity to leave their respected role in those luxurious surroundings. Leaving would have also required them to submit to the authority of a man, with all the restrictions placed on women by Roman law." Ironically, when a man married a former Vestal, it was considered a high honor.

A similar myth comes from pre-Hellenistic Greece. The sacred flame guarded by the priestesses symbolized the Kundalini fires of Indian Yoga practice and the secret powers of sexual alchemy. The woman who tended to these fires were known as Virgins, yet not because they were sexually chaste, because they remained unmarried and belong to no man. There wasn't a desire to be defined or controlled by any man. (don’t you love it??) “Ms. Vesta” was way before her time; perhaps the first woman’s rights activist!

☆♥*♥☆ Freya~Norse Goddess of Love ☆♥*♥☆

Freya is the Goddess of Love, Fertility, Crops, Gold, and Cats. She is the most beautiful and sensual of the Norse Gods and has a love of jewelry and ornament. 

Her most prized necklace is crafted of falcon feathers which allows the wearer to change into a Falcon. She flies using her hawk~winked cloak and protects love and relationships.  Freya's chariot is drawn by two giant cats and she loves music, Spring, flowers, elves, and fairies. 

Freya was married to Odin who was frequently absent and would "disappear".  Whenever she mourned the loss of her husband her tears turned to gold.
