The Lovers by Salvador Dali

The Lovers card depicts the unclothed bodies of two lovers, a man and a woman. They bare their souls’ to each other. The man gazes upon the woman while the woman looks up to the spirit, Archangel Gabriel. As the angel hovers over the couple, arms and wings spread as if blessing the pair. The sun shines above his head, bringing warmth and security and light. The leaves on the tree mirror the hair on the Angels head…a symbol of the fires of passion burning deep within the lovers’ soul. This sun and fire is also symbolic of our life force and our impulse to create. The fertile grass beneath their feet, and fruit on the tree suggests growth and happiness.

However, as with each card in the deck, and with aspects in a birth chart, there may be negative, symbolic manifestations with this card. The snake coiled in the tree behind the woman is a gentle reminder of the story of Adam and Eve and the temptations we may be faced with. There are 3 people in this card, not two. In this regard, the third person could be an intruder to the relationship.

Triangulation can occur when there is a choice to be made between two lovers or two paths. The Lovers card “is” a card of choices and decisions. Conflicting values arise between sexual love, lust and spiritual love although they are closely related. The card implies struggling with temptation between immediate material desires versus staying true to ourselves on our spiritual path. There may be a conflict between different forms of attraction, values or around money as Gemini is a sign of duality and choices.

When The Lovers card appears in a reading, it can augur the coming or presence of a “Soul Mate” relationship. It mostly represents our intensely intimate and sexual relationships. A loving, committed relationship is indicated and desired above all else. Clear, perceptive communication usually brings a beneficial result. Because this is a card of choices, when it appears in a reading, it could test our personal beliefs, values or code of ethics within that relationship. The need to choose between what really soothes the soul with what may appear as temptation, and ultimately detrimental is possible. This could be an ethical or moral choice. If already involved in a committed relationship, there is mutual understanding and appreciation of each other. This card brings a happy outcome to the situation in question.

The Lovers urge for union is rather powerful and it takes love to the highest spiritual level, symbolic of the Angel symbolism. When The Lovers appears, it always refers to a relationship based on a deep, unwavering love. There is no force more powerful. It doesn’t always have to be a sexual relationship although the mutual sexual attraction can be unrivaled. The Lovers card and the number 6 symbolize unconditional love, strength, wisdom, service and compassion. How often do we give love without judgment, conditions or strings attached?

The Star~17 XVII~Symbolic of Aquarius


Rider~Waite

In the Rider Waite version, the body of a naked woman holding an urn in each hand is shown. One urn pours water onto the land (material world) while the other urn is poured into a pool of water (spirituality). One of her feet is planted firmly on the ground while the other grazing the surface of the pool. Her nakedness symbolizes acceptance of her self, while the pouring of water symbolizes the quest for balancing both spiritual and material needs.

Card 17 reduced, equals the number 8. Eight is the number of power and authority signifying success and material fortune. Above her head are 8 stars; 7 smaller stars and one large bright star in the center. Stars symbolize the guiding light within; an intuitive understanding that we're protected “Under the Stars”. There's a need to see the light within ourselves and to be “enlightened”. So that this occurs, let go of inhibitions (nakedness) and open yourself up to your own truth.  Shine your light!

Negatively, and each tarot cards offers both a positive and negative polarity influence, The Star reversed is interpreted as shutting off spirituality or love for another. Perhaps too much self-love becomes a narcissistic focus.  It may be a person always searching or looking towards the distant Star or a long-lost or idealistic love. Then the need to stop dreaming and “manifest” the desired reality is the message. We do this by permitting the “natural” flow of emotions to thaw, rather than having them freeze up. Sometimes emotions are frozen as a defense mechanism, so that no one will hurt us.

The Symbol of “The Star” may appear in a reading during a time when spiritual or emotional healing is necessary and to see the purity and good under the light of the shining stars above. As above, so below…the stars above mirror the light within all.

Juno~Marriage Goddess

Juno is the goddess of marriage and was known for her fidelity and loyalty to her husband Zeus/Jupiter. Her color is lavendar or lilac. The 6th month of June was sacred to her and traditionally many marriages take place during the month of June. Juno symbolizes the principle of relationship and like the sign of Libra, our most intimate partnerships. She symbolises the principle of relatedness and commitment to another over time. She also signifies the consummation of marriage and is also linked to the sign of Scorpio. Children and their rights are linked to Juno in the horoscope.

Research conducted by The Magi Society indicates how Juno may, astrologically, relate to addictions in the chart. However, the primary reason for this concept is that Juno "obsessed" over and withheld emotions relating to betrayal.  She didn't direct those emotions at Jupiter but on the females she caught with her husband! In this regard, Juno was fearful of confronting her husband and, instead, acted out. She felt jealous and then obsessed over her husband’s extra marital affairs. The obsessive qualities of Juno may prevail when linked with Neptune as far as addictions go. I’ve not done much personal research on Juno as she relates to addictions, yet see her more as a focused, loyal, commitment dynamic. To the best of my personal research, Neptune points towards most addictions.  Remember, addiction is twofold:  There is the thought/mind (obsession) and the behavior/body (compulsion) connection.

Juno in the horoscope may point to a “Soul Mate" partner and is often an indicator of compatibility between two birth charts. Juno yearns for a deeply committed, mystical, and sexually fulfilling relationship. Unfortunately many of Juno’s expectations in marriage to Jupiter were not fulfilled or realized. Jupiter betrayed Juno by having numerous affairs while holding her loyal to him in her sexual chastity.  He simply felt it his right and privilege to wander around. Since her relationship needs were not met, Juno subsequently experienced a variety of complexes as a result of holding in emotional pain, which included jealousy, abandonment issues, sacrifice, playing victim, giving away power, manipulation, patterns of oppression, possessiveness, and anger to name a few.

Juno wanted a relationship that was fair and reciprocal. However, what she experienced with Jupiter were power struggles, infidelity, oppression, disappointments and conflicts when she was faced with the reality of her marriage for what it really was. Bringing the symbol of Juno in our relationship today is quite different. Having one monogamous relationship our entire life is no longer the norm, nor is it practical. Individuals live so much longer and are more spiritually aware and growth oriented. It is more common for people to engage in serial monogamy where people have 3 or 4 long-term partners or even marriages during their lives. Humans are not naturally monogamous, although planets in some signs may be prone towards the desire for monogamy. It is a choice some people make for themselves and their relationship. That choice is one of maintaining intimacy, security, and stability within an existing partnership. Let’s face it, the more distractions or people you bring into a marriage the greater likelihood for that marriage or relationship to break down over time anyway. Those distractions may include involving too many friends and family members who may harbor resentment and jealously and attempt to sabotage, consciously or unconsciously, a relationship.  The high incidence of infidelity taking place within the workplace is a testament of this. Fear of commitment or being truly “intimate” with a partner may also cause one or both to seek excitement outside of the marriage. Cyber affairs come to mind.

Perhaps Juno's expectations in her marriage to Jupiter/Zeus were unrealistic.  She assumed that in marriage she would be Jupiter’s only sexual partner. When she discovered this was not the case, she remained steadfast and faithful to him regardless of his unfaithfulness! This was a choice. Her faithfulness was one of Juno’s finest attributes. She stood by her man, no matter what. However, some of her anger was vented to "the other women" even though it was Jupiter/Zeus who usually seduced them. The unfortunate part of this was that her unhappiness and sadness was internalized. The sexual boundaries in their marriage were betrayed. When hurt and pain are internalized and feelings are unfulfilled, a variety of pathologies can result i.e.: resentment, regret, bitterness then depression. She might have asked herself some questions: How much must you sacrifice, compromise or accept to be in this marriage or any relationship? When does being overly "tolerant" and denying personal needs betray the "Self" and what is valued? Is your compromise appreciated?

Astrologically, Juno may also signify the lack of acknowledgment received from a partner and the emerging resentment when needs are not met. It also indicates certain obligations and responsibilities that are willingly attended to. Juno also provides structure to the house to which it resides.

☆♥*♥☆Mercury Retrograde (rx)☆♥*♥☆

Dear Stargazers...

Gemini and Virgo ruled Mercury is turning retrograde (apparent backward motion) on Friday, August 20th at 3:59 EDT, for 3 1/2 weeks.

What can we experience? Disruptions in communications, forgetfulness, electronic mishaps, the fax you sent didn't go through even though you re-ceived a confirmation re-ceipt, travel delays, return of the "exe's".  Yes, it's true, people who you thought were out of your life forever, suddenly return with something else to say.  Sometimes past lovers "re-concile" after "re-evaluating" their "re-lationship" when Mercury backs up.

How to best handle Mercury rx? It's best to not make major decisions or sign important contracts, purchase new electrical equipment or shoes.  If you absolutely must make decisions, do so on contingency and read all legal documents at least 3 times! Back up important computer documents and be mindful of yours and others words and actions.

August 1, 2010: Mercury entered the pre-shadow at 05 degrees Virgo.

August 20, 2010: Mercury retrogrades (rx) at 19 degrees Virgo.

September 12, 2010: Mercury turns direct at 05 degrees Virgo.

December 10, 2010: Mercury retrogrades at 05 degrees Capricorn.

"Coincidentally" when Mercury turned direct at 05 degrees of Capricorn on January 15, 2010, it was conjunct the degree of the June 26, 2010 Partial Lunar Eclipse! Mercury will turn retrograde again, on December 10th, also at 5 degrees of Capricorn. Mercury and its associated symbolism has been prominent during the year and for these dynamic Eclipse cycles. The 5th degree would have been triggered by these important planetary energies in your own birth chart!

☆♥*♥☆New Moon Solar Eclipse☆♥*♥☆

Busy, busy, busy is what many of you have been experiencing. There is a lot of energy building in the cosmos.  Last month we experienced a Full Moon Lunar Eclipse on June 26th at 4+ degrees Capricorn/Cancer.  For those  born late March, June, September and December that Eclipse degree would have impacted your birth chart. Cardinal energy is dynamic.  It signifies action, initiative, activity and leadership ability.  Cardinal folks are the one's who create new projects, start new businesses, experience many physical moves, and always doing something. This coming Sunday, July 11th, a New Moon Solar Eclipse takes place at 19-20 degrees of Cancer.  Individuals born between July 11-14th, as well as individuals with these degrees in their chart will feel the effects of this Eclipse's energy most.  During a Solar Eclipse, events, situations and people enter one's life for the next 6-9 months and up to a full year.

The day before the New Moon Solar Eclipse, lovely Venus changes signs and moves into practical, discriminating Virgo.  On the 21st of July, Saturn re-enters Venus-ruled Libra and hovers there until October, 2012.  Saturn rules structure, karma, teaching, and one's career (to name a few) and positioned in Libra, focuses energy in the area of relationships.  Many relationships will be tested, restructured or end while others will start anew.

Later in the month, the Sun enters Leo on July 22nd, while Jupiter turns retrograde the day after at 3+ degrees of Aries, squaring the Eclipse of June 26th leading up to a Full Aquarius Moon on July 25th.  The month culminates in a dynamic t-square configuration of players: Mars, Saturn, Jupiter, Uranus & Pluto. Be mindful of your own and others actions. Dramatic events will appear in the news. We are undergoing a tremendous amount of change deep within our collective psyche as well as deep within the Earth. Visualize, in your mind's eye, what most brings happiness to your life.  Hold a picture of our beautiful oceans filled with glorious sea life, dolphins smiling and playfully gliding along in their pods.  Focus a small portion of your thoughts to healing our planet.  Mother Nature feels distress.  She needs to feel some positive healing energy and support because she feels neglected. Practice patience, tolerance, and acceptance during your days.  Take your vitamins, exercise, smile, kiss your children, lover, cat and/or dog and get plenty of rest. :-)

In the tarot deck, card number 7 is called The Chariot, symbolic of the depth of nurturing Lunar folks provide. The Chariot is the director of his own destiny so long as he stays focused along his path. He is in control and holds the reins of his feelings. He leads the way with unwavering focus, ambition, and determination. It's apparent he's anxious to get to where he wants to go, which isn’t always where he needs to be. Sometimes this focus and determination is detrimental. It’s important to look up from time to time and attend to what is going on around you. Overly ambitious, excessive desire to pursue a goal “at any cost” can result in “not seeing the forest from the trees” and will actually sabotage one’s goals rather than achieve them!

     Three days before the New Moon is called the Balsamic Phase. The Balsamic Moon appears after the waning Crescent Moon, just before she completely vanishes from visibility ushering in the dark of the Moon, the New Moon. During this darkness it is time to retreat, become receptive to nuances and impressions, and to let go. Whatever information or answers are needed will eventually be illuminated. This is why the New Moon is symbolic of change and new beginnings. The dark of the Moon is a gate of inspiration.

     The Balsamic Phase is also called the "Wishing Moon". It's an auspicious time to create that which is desired.  Particular focus may be given to the sign of the New Moon and where that sign falls in your birth chart.  The June 12, 2010 New Moon falls in the sign of Mercury-ruled Gemini at 21-22 degrees.  This is a communicative, lively, busy, nervous, mutable, air Moon.  The area of life in which this New Moon falls in your chart may experience spontaneous activity.

     On the East Coast, the New Moon appears at 7:15am.  By 7:35 pm the Moon is Void-of-Course (VOC)  until it enters it's own sign, Cancer, at 9:50 pm EDT.  Chiron, Uranus and Jupiter are at 00 degrees, also ushering in new energy and a brand new cycle.
