☆♥*♥☆The Vertex~Cosmic Appointments☆♥*♥☆

by Lorraine Valente

Keywords: Turning Point, Destiny, Fated, Karmic, Relationships, Synchronicity, Coincidence, Encounters, Intersection, Crossroads, Cosmic Appointments, Accidents, Events, Attraction.

What is an astrological Vertex? The Vertex is not a planet; it's an intersection of the ecliptic with the prime vertical (Nadir) in the West. In an astrological chart, the Vertex always appears in the Western Hemisphere of the chart, usually through houses 5~8. Because the location of the Vertex is in the western half of the chart, the general nature of the Vertex is about the "relating" principle. The house the Vertex is located defines the types of relationships you seek or draw into your life and how you utilize the principle of relating in all of your relationships. Vertex connections are also also present in "event" or "accident" charts and are triggered by transits and progressions.

Vx      When another's planets conjunct the Vertex, you will automatically know something is special about them, and that person is not easily forgotten. It seems that the Vertex attracts important or fated people and events into our lives. They are karmic cosmic "encounters" and beyond ones control. If you want to remember Vertex symbolism, it's like being in the right place at the right time, or the wrong place at the wrong time! There are "turning points" in the area of life the Vertex connects with in the chart.

For example, if ones' Mars is conjunct (the same astrological degree) your own Vertex you may feel that person to be very sexy/sexual and connected with their dynamic energy. They may either incite or excite you! When an individuals Saturn is conjunct your Vertex, they may be somewhat "stabilizing" or offer sage advice and wisdom. You may look towards this person for discipline, lessons, or structures they bring into your life or, alternately, into theirs. However, we don't readily welcome lessons or Saturnian energy another brings to a relationship.

Cosmic Appointments
I once owned a staffing/recruiting business and interviewed, then placed, a job applicant and subsequently earned a high commission from that placement. Since we never met in person, as most interviewing was performed over the phone, I asked if he would share his birth data with me. "Coincidentally", his Jupiter was conjunct my 8th house Venus/Vertex; he brought me luck in financial matters by earning a commission from his job placement. Receiving commissions from others (Venus in the 8th conjunct the Vertex) is an 8th house event.  Fated love connections are possible with an 8th house Venus/Vertex and is also an aspectof a counselor or one who listens to others.

I love using the Vertex in chart synastry and compatibility. If you look back to significant people and events in your life, you'll likely find connections to your Vertex and Anti-vertex, the point opposite the Vertex. In some instances, the energy seems to be similar to that of the Nodal axis. However, the Vertex, unlike the Nodal axis, doesn't store past memory, talents, or abilities. It serves to draw the necessary people, events, and learning experiences into our lives. When it does, those people and experiences are significant in some way, as indicated by the house and sign. There is a synchronistic quality to these contacts.

"Be careful what you wish for....."

Where is your Vertex? Order an astrological consultation for yourself or as a gift for a friend or family member. I'll only require your date, time, and place of birth.  I'm available for consultations and readings 7 days via phone, e-mail or in-person.

☆♥*♥☆Vesta~Asteroid Goddess☆♥*♥☆

by Lorraine Valente

Vesta~Asteroid Goddess of Fire, Sacred Virgin, Sister to Ceres

Discovery Date: March 29, 1807

Keywords: Service, Fire, Lamp, Dedication, Commitment, Career or Causes, Focus, Hearth, Dungeon*, Basements*, Detachment, Kundalini energy, Rituals and Initiations, Fertility, Promiscuity, Celibacy, Teacher or Scholar, Tradition, Contracts, Keeper of Esoteric Wisdom, Sacrifice, Altars and Ceremonial objects, Work commitments, Alternate sexual behaviors, Working to compensate for life's disappointments, Conservation and Safety, Transmute sexual energy for Enlightenment and Liberation.

The Sacred Virgin is symbol for lovely Asteroid Goddess Vesta, also known as Hestia by the Greeks, relating to the sign Virgo. Vesta was worshipped as Goddess of the hearth and keeper of the sacred flame. She placed a shrine at the center of every home, similar to our modern day fireplaces or Native American sweat lodge pits, where loved ones gather around; friends and family have the opportunity to bond.
She is the brightest of asteroids and is the only one who can be seen with the naked eye. How fitting for one who is guardian of sacred fires. Since Vesta was chosen to guard and protect these sacred flames, she came to symbolize food, shelter, hospitality, and social contacts. She provided a sanctuary of protection.

The Romans utilized her eternal fire and chose the Virgins at the age of six (6), before the Saturn square. According to Wikipedia (2010), "the Vestals were committed to the priesthood at a young age (before puberty) and were sworn to celibacy for a period of 30 years. These 30 years were, in turn, divided into three periods of a decade each: ten as students, ten in service, and ten as teachers. Afterwards, they could marry if they chose to do so. However, few took the opportunity to leave their respected role in those luxurious surroundings. Leaving would have also required them to submit to the authority of a man, with all the restrictions placed on women by Roman law." Ironically, when a man married a former Vestal, it was considered a high honor.

A similar myth comes from pre-Hellenistic Greece. The sacred flame guarded by the priestesses symbolized the Kundalini fires of Indian Yoga practice and the secret powers of sexual alchemy. The woman who tended to these fires were known as Virgins, yet not because they were sexually chaste, because they remained unmarried and belong to no man. There wasn't a desire to be defined or controlled by any man. (don’t you love it??) “Ms. Vesta” was way before her time; perhaps the first woman’s rights activist!

☆♥*♥☆ Full Pisces Moon ☆♥*♥☆

by Lorraine Valente

Just a quick reminder that we're experiencing a  Full Moon in the sign of Pisces.  A Full Moon is a culmination of energy from the New Moon, approximately 14 days earlier.  Whatever thought seeds were planted during the Balsamic Phase, 3 days before the New Moon, the "Wishing Moon", culminate when the Moon is Full.
The Sun/Moon Midpoint is 1+ degrees of Sagittarius; we usually round up to the next degree.  However, the symbol for 1 degree of Sagittarius is "Retired Army Veterans Gather to Reawaken Old Memories".  How appropriate considering our troops are departing Iraq.  The symbol for 2 degrees of Sagittarius is "The Ocean Covered With Whitecaps", symbolic of the power of emotional energy.  Use it wisely.

Venus and Mars are walking side by side in the sky with Mars in Venus' sign and Venus comfy in her home sign of Libra. Mars isn't at all happy tagging along with Venus, although he lends a little (angry) energy to Venus. Venus doesn't really needs his assistance because she's already in the lead.   She'll be trining dreamy Neptune on September 4th before Mars does the same the day after the September 8th New Moon.

Enjoy your week and remember, I'm available for consultations and readings 7 days via phone, e-mail or in-person.

Peace.....

☆♥*♥☆Virgo/Pisces Relationship Axis☆♥*♥☆

by Lorraine Valente

Virgo/Pisces~Ascendant/Descendant Relationship Axis (1st house/7th house)

The Ascendant or Rising sign is the sign rising on the horizon at the time of birth. This is the face we show the world, our “mask” for which the Sun hides. This is our outer personality, temperament and disposition as well as our early environment growing up. It is the way others see us and also indicates our physical appearance. The planetary ruler of the Ascendant, and the aspects (connections to other planets in your birth chart) further define physical appearance.

The Descendant, or 7th house cusp, its planetary ruler, and the connections it makes to other planets in the birth chart, is symbolic of the type of partner you're attracted to. The 7th house is the house of all partnerships including marriage and legal contracts yet also considered the house of open enemies or the Defendant in a law suit.

For example, Virgo rising projects a cerebral, taciturn self image. There is the aura of proper etiquette; Virgo is usually reserved.  Perfection-seeking is Virgo's domain. Cleanliness is important.

Sexually speaking, the Virgin may alternate between the victim/savior, dominant/submissive dynamic.  Virgo's perfection-seeking lends to experimenting with bisexuality, homosexuality, or even remaining sexually chaste.

With Pisces on the Descendant, you're attracted to a partner who is illusive in some way. He or she can be an alcoholic, a drug user, chronic liar, or and artist who lives in a dream world. In love, this placement would require one to be of service to the other. Often, Virgo risings  attract a first partner who isn't good for them. Virgo is prone to martyr-like tendencies and projects the need to “save” the partner from themselves. Love relationships are a struggle when one is required to care for another or become involved with someone they want to "rescue" or "be" rescued. Whatever we do not own and acknowledge in ourselves (Ascendant) we attract externally (Descendant) to mirror our desires and teach us necessary lessons in relating.

Knowing your partners 7th house cusp (the relationship house) and the ruler of that house, indicates the type of partner you may attract or are attracted to, in addition to how you relate within a relationship. Alternately, if the ruler of your 7th house in your partners chart is heavily aspected in their chart, those energies will be brought into the relationship.

The date, time and place of birth is important in making the determination of the Ascendant or Rising sign, which sets up the house cusps dividing houses or areas of life.

Enjoy your day and remember, I'm available for consultations and readings 7 days via phone, e-mail or in-person.

☆♥*♥☆The Harvest Moon~Brown Bear☆♥*♥☆

by Lorraine Valente

The Harvest Moon~Brown Bear

In Native American Astrology, individuals born from August 23- September 22nd are born during the Harvest Moon! Their plant totem is the Violet and their animal totem is the Brown Bear! Their mineral/gemstone is the Amethyst, which is lilac, and their color is regal purple, also the color of the delicate Violet.

The amethyst is said to have healing qualities and is sometimes used during spiritual attunements.  Amethyst possesses the ability to protect its wearer from the intoxicating effects of alcohol and other addictions.  It alleviates stress, anxiety, headaches, and calms the mind. Placing amethyst near your bed assures a restful sleep.

Folks born during this time also belong to the Turtle Elemental Clan. Turtles are wise souls. They are strong and carry their homes on their back; symbolic of Goddess Mother Earth.  They methodically take one step at a time; one day at a time.  Turtle is strong, patient, protective, creative, and stable.

Brown bear people are discriminating and analytical resulting in good judgment. Bears possess power of introspection. Bear also symbolizes the receptive energy of the feminine, and utilizes right brain thinking…or intuition.

The Brown Bear (Ursus arctos) is a species of bear that can reach masses of 130–700 kg (290–1550 pounds). The Grizzly Bear (Ursus arctos horribilis), the Kodiak Bear and the Mexican Brown Bear are North American subspecies of the Brown Bear. It is sometimes referred to poetically as the bruin.

Vision...
"We gain a vision of what our potential is from our elders and from the Teachings of the Sacred Tree. By trying to live up to that vision and by trying to live like the people we admire, we grow and develop. Our vision of what we can become is like a strong magnet pulling us toward it."

☆♥*♥☆The Hermit~Virgo ☆♥*♥☆

by Lorraine Valente

Tarot Card # 9~The Hermit~Symbolic of Virgo.

The Hermit represents a person who is a teacher of the true meaning of life and is also on a spiritual path. The Hermit stands alone and is isolated. He is cloaked in a gray (wisdom) robe, head down, eyes closed, looking within. He holds an illuminated lamp in his right hand held out and up to the sky, as if guiding him on a path. The light inside of the lamp is in the shape of a star. In his left hand, a golden staff is held representing intelligence. The Hermit lights the way for others who have lost their way. When this card appears in a reading, perhaps we need to shed light on a situation in order to heal. Since light casts shadows, it also encourages us to deal with contradictions within, including those of the shadow self. Virgo assimilates spiritual knowledge including the desire to serve.

When this card appears in a reading, critical thinking is blended with intuition. Good advice and pure intentions are indicated. You must persevere to achieve a particular goal.  Look within for guidance. Introspection, attainment and realizing your purpose is possible.

Negatively, the appearance of The Hermit may imply you are being overly critical, obsessed with details and disorganized. There is a need to organize your thoughts and defer to a Higher Power.

☆♥*♥☆ Happy Birthday Virgo ☆♥*♥☆

by Lorraine Valente

Happy Birthday Virgo the Virgin! to those born between August 23~September 22!

Key Phrase for Virgo is “I Analyze”

Nature is: Barren

Mercury rules the sign of Virgo and Gemini and generally presdisposes the individual toward a high-strung temperament, even though they may appear rather reserved.  Virgo symbolizes how information is processed, analyzed, and digested, the mental faculties.  Virgo resides in the 6th house of the natural zodiac. The 6th house demonstrates day-to-day work, being of service to others, aunts and uncles, small pets, people who work for or report to you, and health issues.

Virgo’s can be rather discriminating, conscientiousness, perfectionist, preoccupied with order and neatness, and possibly critical. The Virgin easily adheres to routine tasks and is known for the ability to assimilate, analyze, and categorize facts. The Virgin represents purity, logic, modesty and the desire to serve. This mutable (changeable) earth (grounded) sign is one of the most sensual signs of the zodiac and is rather fond of all that implies. If you want to get the job done on time and exactly right the first time around, hire a Virgo. Virgo’s love to help, and being of service to another is their greatest joy. Virgo’s possess a strong desire to be of service to others.
