The astrological glyph is the Twins. Gemini is a mutable (malleable, flexible), air (intellect, detached, fleeting) sign located in the 1st quadrant (self oriented/personal) of the Eastern Hemisphere of the chart. Because Gemini resides in the 3rd house of the zodiac and is ruled by the planet Mercury, communication, thoughts and learning are most important to Gemini. Your birthstone is the Emerald. Intellectual stimulation is as basic to a Gemini as family and children are to a Cancererian. There is an inherent need to know and understand just about everything. The sign of Aries inhabits the 1st house of the natural zodiac. That first house is the cusp of the Ascendant or the Rising Sign. Because Gemini arrives immediately after the earthy 2nd house Taurus who asks, “What should I possess or own and how will I meet my security issues”? Gemini desires to communicate and formulate ideas about what those security needs are and to present them to others; most often in the early school years when we accumulate a lot of information about life and the world in a short time frame. Gemini wants to collect data and information about everything. It is not uncommon for Gemini to be watching television, listening to music, and reading a book all at the same time!

Duality refers to having a double nature, character or purpose and/or comprised of two parts. Gemini’s certainly have the reputation for the ability to change their personality in an instant and may scatter their energies just as easily. Maintaining focus particulary in early years is sometimes difficult for Gemini. Their duality enables them to see two sides of problem or situation and to project outward the two aspects of their persona as well.

Gemini makes home in the 3rd house of the birth chart and so relates to siblings, the neighborhood, early educational experiences, teachers, short distance travel, the mind, news, siblings, cousins and automobiles. If you have an empty 3rd house (no planets in there), look to where the ruler of that house (the 3rd cusp ruler) is located and, along with its aspects, will provide a glimpse of your communication style and learning experiences as well as the area of life these will be most utilized.

Health issues for Gemini usually involves the lungs, shoulders, hands and fingers, and the nervous system. Respiratory troubles may be more common with this sign. Gemini’s can't sit still because they possess a lot of nervous physical and mental energy. Mercury ruled, Gemini’s often become agitated for no obvious reason. Their mental energy becomes so compressed and, like a coil, springs forth with terrific tension in order to unwind. Several cousins, my daughter and brother as well as friends are all Gemini’s. I have a wonderful daughter and her temperament is so easy going. Whatever tragedy or annoyance she experiences rolls right off her shoulders. However, when she was little, her little alter ego would surface from time to time. I called this other entity “Sybil” after the book written about a woman with multiple personalities. Whenever “Sybil” surfaced, it was a complete 180 degree turn around. For a moment in time, the “evil twin” takes over! This is really perplexing to watch and experience because it’s like you’re living with an alien (for all 5 minutes). They must experience information overload and need an outlet for all that condensed mental energy!

Gemini’s are also distinguishable by their youthful exuberance. Gemini always looks a bit younger than their chronological age and they are witty and entertaining. No one can play with words better than the Twins! Some accuse Gemini of being fickle and/or gossipy….well, Mercury, Gemini’s ruling planet does have wings and was considered to be a “messenger”. It isn’t always about “gossip” and more likely about the need to communicate and share information. :-) They are the networkers of the zodiac. Automobiles and Gemini’s seem to go together too. They love to drive; always on the go…they have people to see, places to go and things to do! So much to do and so little time!

Relationships with Gemini are "interesting".  Some say they are difficult to pin down, restless, too difficult to figure out. This is because they become bored listening to and doing the same old thing. If you want to attract one, I meant II :-) say something witty, intellectually stimulating, quote a famous author. Gemini’s polar opposite (3rd house~communication, thoughts, ideas, early education, the immediate neighborhood, short distance travel and siblings) is the mutable, fire sign Sagittarius (9th house- higher learning, long distance travel, philosophy, publishing and the law).
