☆♥*♥☆ Chiron ☆♥*♥☆

by Lorraine Valente

CHIRON: The Wounded Healer, Centaur, Half Man-Horse, Teacher, Mentor, Eternal, Wisdom, Seeker, Maverick, Bizarre Reversals, Marriage indicator, Ankles, Calves, Spasms.

MYTH: The centaurs of Greek mythology are creatures that are part human and part horse. They are usually portrayed with the torso and head of a human, and the body of a horse. Centaurs are the followers of the wine god Dionysus and are well known for drunkenness and carrying off helpless young maidens. They inhabited Mount Pelion in Thessaly, northern Greece. According to one myth, they are the offspring of Ixion, the king of Lapithae (Thessaly), and a cloud. He had arranged a tryst with Hera, but Zeus got wind of it and fashioned a cloud into Hera's shape. Therefore, the Centaurs are sometimes called Ixionidae. Centaurs are notorious for their bestial behavior on the wedding of Pirithous, king of the Lapiths. They violated the female guests and attempted to abduct the bride. What followed was a bloody battle, after which they were driven from Thessaly. An exception was the kind and wise centaur Chiron, the teacher of the Greek heroes Jason and Achilles.

Chiron was born a centaur and his mother rejected him. His parents Hera & Zeus were repulsed by their new son’s image and abandoned him. Chiron’s first wound was psychological ~ one of abandonment, rejection, and a perpetual longing for the love and “relationship” to his parents, especially that of his mother.

Later, Chiron’s physical wound was in his foot, ankle, inner calf and thigh, injured by a poison arrow, affecting his mobility. Sagittarians (horses) need lots of freedom to roam around. When that freedom is restricted or there is a “perceived” threat to loss of freedom then Chiron/Sagittarius really feels wounded. There can’t be anything worse than being trapped in a physical body that doesn’t feel right or possess the inability to fully express its wants and desires. As a result, Chiron spent much time in his cave studying the Stars, medicine, spirituality, mathematics and music. He utilized these disciplines to heal others and, in turn, heal himself; hence, the Wounded Healer archetype. The astrological glyph or symbol for the sign of Sagittarius is just that; a Centaur holding a bow and arrow pointed to the heavens, and into the distance. Healing the first psychic wound coupled with the physical wound symbolizes the mind, body, spirit connection. Alternative and holistic methods of healing are suggested, particularly chiropractic which became widespread after Chiron's discovery on November 1, 1977.

One of Chiron’s life lessons is relinquishing painful memories from childhood. Because Chiron is immortal, his pain and suffering is eternal. Much of his pain was of his own making. When we are able to heal our primary wound (s) in life, we are usually able to offer that experience to assist others with similar woundedness., and, in turn, heal our self. That is if we choose this path. Oftentimes, people can be in so much emotional pain and turmoil, or have not forgiven their parents, others or themselves, they choose to harm others as a projection of their own unmet needs. A vicious, repetitive cycle ensues and an attraction to others to play out ones life dramas or create a crisis of experience is drawn.

As Chiron matured, he became quite the wise teacher (Sagittarius/Jupiter) Shaman and Healer. The placement of Chiron in the chart shows your deepest wound by house position. Aspects it makes to other planets, and house cusps (the divisions of the signs) in your birth chart offers additional expression. This is also the place to find your greatest strengths, ability to heal others, and where you're able to exert or project this knowledge out into the environment. Aspects Chiron makes with other planets and asteroids provides additional clues and messages.

Chiron connections are very significant in synastry. Synastry is the comparison of two birth charts that shows compatibility and relationship dynamics with another individual. When people enter into relationships where there is a strong Chiron connection, the relationship takes on a fated quality. Research has confirmed Chiron as a marriage or partnership indicator. Bizarre reversals and adjustments in relationships or between the charts of individuals are also possible. However, relationships indicated by Chiron are usually not easy at first. The difficulties inherent in Chironic relationships must be overcome for the personal growth of both individuals. That is the true test of Chiron’s placement in relationships.

Tell me that we belong together,
Dress it up with the trappings of love.
I'll be captivated,
I'll hang from your lips,
Instead of the gallows of heartache that hang from above.
I'll be your crying shoulder,
I'll be love's suicide
I'll be better when I'm older,
I'll be the greatest fan of your life.
- I'll Be by Edwin McCain

According to Melanie Reinhart’s publication Chiron: The Healing Journey, Chiron has been described as the link between the Inner and Outer Planets and it is the identification of the Chironian issues in ones life that assists with linking Inner and Outer Planets and thus the integration of the Soul and Personality.
In psychological terms, Chiron is the Inner Teacher to whom we owe our allegiance. The cluster of astrological ingredients surrounding it may symbolize the tests, disciplines and ordeals which unfold under the tutelage of this Inner Teacher, whose path is Life itself, whether or not this includes following a particular spiritual tradition. Major crises of learning experiences can be reflected by any factor in the horoscope, but they are likely to be interpreted and processed in a manner congruent with the Chiron configuration. We also have to remember that Chiron represents the Wound/The Wounder/The Healer in the chart.

Some will be more sensitive to Chiron’s energies than others. According to Melanie Reinhardt, if there are one or more of the conditions below, Chiron may be considered focal in a particular horoscope; in this person’s life Chironian themes may be dominant and will be strongly activated when any outer planet transits part of the Chiron configuration.

(a) Chiron conjunct any of the Angles

(b) Chiron conjunct or square the Moons Nodes

(c) Chiron aspecting many planets, especially if the Sun, Moon and/or Asc Ruler are among them

(d) Chiron as a focal point according to the shape of the chart .  For examples: as handle of a "bucket shaped chart", or as the leading planet of a "bowl shaped" chart, or in the middle of a stellium, or the Apex of a Yod, or in hard aspect to the midpoint within an empty hemisphere or quadrant.

(e) Sagittarius or Virgo on the MC or ASC.

(f) Chiron in either Sagittarius or Virgo.

(g) A stellium of Planets in Sagittarius or Virgo.

When we add the quality of the Sign in which Chiron is placed, it fills out this description and suggests a "way of being" which supports us in the area of life represented by Chiron’s house, according to Reinhardt. Chiron’s sign position may also show how we seek to protect ourselves from our inner pain, and what we draw on to try to deal with an area of our life which may be blocked. Also, the sign may provide a kind of bandage over our wound (as expressed by Chiron’s house position) and this bandage is often forcibly removed during a strong Chiron transit.

By examining the Chiron configuration, as well as looking into the psychological process and events coinciding with the Chiron cycle in our life, we may be able to assist the healing process by focusing and getting really clear about what's happening, and also of the purpose behind the suffering or crisis.

At present, Chiron is transiting Aquarius, side by side with Neptune enhancing intuition and psychic sensitivities guiding others to adopt spiritual values. Working with the personal issues that Chiron represents in our horoscope provides a means of grounding ourselves in our humanity and also defining our unique contribution to this transition in which we are all participating in at this time.

☆♥*♥☆ Sagittarius/Gemini Axis ☆♥*♥☆

by Lorraine Valente

The Sagittarius/Gemini Ascendant/Descendant Relationship Axis (1st house/7th house)

Knowing your partners 7th house cusp (the relationship house) and the ruling planet of that house, provides insight about the type of partner you're attracted to (or attract into your life), and the method of relating within that relationship.

The Ascendant or Rising sign is the sign rising on the horizon at the time of birth. This is the face shown to the world, our “mask” for which the Sun hides, and how others see us. This is our outer personality, temperament and disposition as well as how the early home environment was experienced. It also hints of the physical appearance. The ruler of the Ascendant and the aspects (connections to other planets in your birth chart) further delineate and define your physical appearance.

Look towards the Descendant, or 7th house cusp, its ruler and its aspects. The 7th house is the house of all partnerships including marriage, legal contracts, and the house of open enemies or the Defendant in a law suit.

In relationships, Sagittarius has planetary rulership with expansive Jupiter. Whatever Jupiter touches, expands. If you have a Sagittarius Ascendant, you are jovial, friendly, philosophical, and an independent thinker and tend to attract lively, youthful partners with a flair for words.

With Mercury ruled Gemini on the descendant you seek an affable, fun-loving, youthful and witty partner. Attraction to a partner with those qualities who is younger, intelligent, sociable, fickle, a natural born communicator is likely. It is quite possible to attract a second partner or marriage later in life with this placement. In both male and female charts, the tendency to attract a teacher or mentor type is possible as well as meeting another who appears androgynous in some way.

One of the first things to look at when provided birth data of a potential partner, is their Mercury placement, since Mercury rules your descendant. If Mercury is favorably aspected in your partners chart, those communicative benefits are brought into your relationship with him or her. Your own Mercury placement and the aspects it makes to other planets demonstrates the way you approach communicating relationship needs as well.

A Sagittarius Ascendant may attract a partner with Mercury prominent in their chart. Mercury would form favorable aspects to the Sun, Moon, Mars or Venus, or elevated in conjunction to the MC (10th house), IC (4th house), conjunct or ruling their Ascendant (Gemini/Virgo) or Descendant. The Sun sign in Gemini or Virgo are other possibilities.

Knowing the date, time and place of birth is important in making the determination for the Rising sign. This cusp sets up all other house cusps that divide chart houses and areas of life.

☆♥*♥☆ LONG SNOWS MOON (Elk) ☆♥*♥☆

by Lorraine Valente

Long Snows Moon (Elk)

Bull Elk
In Native American Astrology, those born from November 22nd~December 21st are born under the Long Snows Moon and their animal totem is the Elk. Their color is black and obsidian is their totem in the mineral kingdom. Obsidian is a type of volcanic glass that is usually shiny like glass. It has razor-sharp edges and therefore should always be “handled carefully.” Obsidian was used in carvings and for jewelry as well as for mirrors. It was also crafted for use in arrowheads. Because obsidian comes from deep within the earth it is said to be grounding.

Believed to be an intense metaphysical stone which should always be used with care, Obsidian is best used under the guidance of a trained crystal healer. As a protective stone, its power lies in its ability to absorb and transform negative energies.

Elk people are very similar to the properties of obsidian. They can be good mirrors for other people as well as projecting “their stuff” onto others. They are often rough around the edges or difficult to get to know because of their uneven outer surface. Elk people can be very protective of those they love or from “perceived” danger. “They try to get as many cows as they can into their harem, and they will fervently defend them from the approaches of any other male” (Sun Bear and Wabun).

Yellowstone-Elk
Elk are introspective and clairvoyant.  Incredibly strong and elegant, they are perhaps one of the most regal in the deer family. Men of this totem are competitive with each other about the women in their lives and can be prone to fits of rage or jealousy that may come as a surprise to those close to them.

You’re generally friendly and sincere yet can also be impatient, indulgent, and reckless. Sagittarius rising individuals usually have a cheerful disposition and a friendly smile. Marriage and partnership isn’t a priority with this placement, yet may tie the knot in an early marriage, then form another significant relationship later in life.

Moon in Sagittarius: Moon in Sagittarius is charming and affable. You seem to make friends wherever you go. Your judgment is keen and you adapt easily to changing circumstances. You enjoy exploring and learning and usually have a wonderful sense of humor. Mercury in Sagittarius: Here you are quick witted and intelligent! Very outspoken, you have foot in mouth disease! Brutally honest, and are sometimes tactless when sharing the truth, or your version of it. Yours is a restless mind that loves to learn and explore new horizons, beliefs, religions, travelling far and wide, physically or metaphorically, sampling all life has to offer.

Venus in Sagittarius: Values a partner who is adventurous and exciting, perhaps sharing athletic hobbies and interests. Attracted to romance, there may be difficulty in sustaining it resulting from unrealistic expectations of perfection and the belief there is more "out there".  Love of travel, possible attraction to foreign cultures, possible.  Horse lover.

Mars in Sagittarius: Mars in this sign is courageous, passionate, and sensual. Mars in Sagittarius may be impulsive, quick witted, alluring, and highly attracted to erotic adventures.  This placement may be the crusader, activist, explorer, or fanatic.

☆♥*♥☆ Tarot Card XX~Temperance ☆♥*♥☆

by Lorraine Valente

Tarot Card XX~Temperance~Symbolic of Sagittarius

In the Rider-Waite version on the right, you see the Angel Temperance~Archangel Michael. He sports the solar symbol on his head with light rays streaming outward from it. In each hand a cup is held, one cup is silver (feminine) and one is gold (masculine). Water pours and vibrates (waves) and is blended from one cup to the other. This blending of fire and water, masculine and feminine and the conscious and unconscious also symbolizes conception. The number 14 is the most fertile day of a woman’s cycle. It is also the approximate number of days it takes from the New Moon to the Full Moon each month.

Salvador Dali
Temperance
A lovely version of Angel Temperance, on the left, is painted by a favorite artist, Salvador Dali. Compromises need to be made to achieve balance in relating. Drawing Temperance means adapting to circumstances, accommodating as well as gathering facts and expanding ones experiences. Negotiation, balancing alternatives, and moderation are symbolized. Blending, creating, alchemy, and successfully combining material to create something new are suggested. Negatively, blind faith, restlessness, being insensitive to the feelings of others, excess and feelings of self righteousness are possible.

The Symbol of Temperance may appear in a reading during a time when emotional balance is required. The expression “patience is a virtue” applies here. There may be emotional days ahead or a need to balance and/or adapt our emotions to bring about positive and “creative” results. If this card turns up next to the Empress or the Sun, a conception or baby may be on the way!

☆♥*♥☆ Happy Birthday Sagittarius ☆♥*♥☆

by Lorraine Valente

Happy Birthday Sagittarius the Archer!
November 22~December 21
Key Phrase for Sagittarius is "I SEEK"

“Faster than a speeding bullet, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound, able to bend steel in his bare hands! Look! Up in the sky! It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s SAGITTARIUS!”  Well, he might as well be! Have you ever known a Sagittarian who didn’t fly? “Planes, Trains and Automobiles” is their credo and where you find Sagittarius.

Sagittarians are often known as the bachelors of the zodiac (along with Libra~!) and make no doubt about it…these guys are smooth and charming. In fact, you might say charm is their middle name, their first name…and their last name too…only thing is by the time you get to figuring out exactly what their last name is, they are GONE. Poof! Jupiter wants to scale mountains, run marathons, and fully develop every bit of potential. Sometimes this means going beyond the limits which is why many Jupiter-born folks believe they're “off limits” or untouchable. Often an urge to align with a greater vision; they possess a unique method of rationalizing and justifying. Sometimes known to have foot-in-mouth-disease; Meaning...Open wide and stick foot in as far as it can go! If you want the truth, nothing but the truth so help you G -d, ask a Sagittarian. They'll blurt it out willingly, with an impish smile, then "perhaps" an apology, if you’re that fortunate. Honesty is an admirable quality and they may be brutally upfront, always knowing exactly where you stand when in their company.

“My stupid mouth, has got me in trouble,
I said too much again,
To a date over dinner yesterday,
And I could see she was offended
She said “well anyway….”
Just dying for a subject change.
Oh, another social casualty
Score one more for me
How could I forget?
Mama said, “think before speaking”
No filter in my head
Oh, what’s a boy to do…..”
~John Mayer~Room for Squares~My Stupid Mouth

Jupiter, Sag’s ruling planet, has a cycle of approximately 12 years. The planet Jupiter is our largest planet and is known to have quite a few Moons! In fact, we aren’t even sure how many Moons (women) Jupiter has because new ones are surfacing and being discovered all the time. That Jupiter was discovered to have so many more moons shouldn’t surprise us because it is the planet of “abundance”. He was also known as a womanizer in mythology. Juno, Jupiter’s wife, was acutely aware his many Moons, , women, were in Jupiter’s life. Whatever Jupiter touches by transit in the chart literally expands in nature. Jupiter bestows wonderful gifts and some have even called him “Santa Claus”. However, you know the expression about too much of a good thing, right? Sometimes Jupiter transits offer financial gain or weight gain! Excessive behavior, exaggeration or over doing it is linked to Jupiter.

According to Ariel Guttman and Kenneth Johnson’s Mythic Astrology, correlations between Chiron, Jupiter and Sagittarius are apparent. It was known that Jupiter spent most of his time pursuing his many love interests. The question of faithfulness always surfaces when discussing the sign of Sagittarius because Sagittarians are always searching or wanting the next adventure, particularly if it is outdoors. They are usually committed to their current partner and that isn’t usually the issue. “But how LONG they can sustain themselves in that commitment is another question. “Til Death do us part” is not a credo that Sagittarians hold dear (unless the chart contains strong Juno or Cancer symbolism)..and when pushed against the wall to say those words they usually tremble”.

Sagittarius’ polar opposite (9th house~higher educations, beliefs, philosophies, legal matters, publishing and teaching) is the mutable, air sign Gemini (3rd house~thoughts, communication, perception, siblings, early education including teachers, short distance travel and automobiles). The integration and forming of philosophies and beliefs are some areas of life for Sagittarius, also contingent upon other areas of the birth chart. When under stress each sign operates through the most negative characteristics of their polar opposite, the sign 180 degrees opposite itself. In this case, when under stress, Sagittarius may appear just like mutable, airy Gemini, ruled by Mercury and becomes scattered, fickle, and non-committal.

During Jupiter transits or if Jupiter is significantly placed in the natal, you may experience benefit, fortune, or excess. For instance, my Jupiter in Libra is located in the 11th house of friends, associations, counseling, and hopes and wishes. This is an area of my life where I feel most “fortunate” since I’ve always had the most wonderful friends and have been fortunate in the ability to utilize Astrology in guiding others. In the sign of Libra, equality in a partnership is a priority.

Where is Sagittarius in your chart?  Jupiter?

☆♥*♥☆ Full Taurus Moon ☆♥*♥☆

by Lorraine Valente

Dear Moongazers,

Here in the United States, the day before the Sun enters Sagittarius, we experience a Full Moon at 12:27pm on the last degree, 29+ Taurus.

Aspecting the Full Moon:

Chariklo, 29 Scorpio conjunct the Sun
Siva, 29 Scorpio conjunct the Sun
Lachesis, 17 Sagittarius conjunct Mercury and Mars out-of-bounds (OOB)
Pallas Athene, 18 Sagittarius conjunct Mercury and Mars out-of-bounds (OOB)
Fixed Star Toliman, 29 Scorpio conjunct the Sun
Yod: Apex planet Venus in Libra ~~~> * Uranus in Pisces ~~~> * Taurus Moon

A Yod is forms a geometric pattern called the isosceles triangle.   It's commonly referred to by astrologers as the "Finger of God" as the apex point is the finger pointing to an important or fated path and area of life.  When transiting planets touch the "finger", the entire triangle comes alive, vibrating with energy focusing attention to the symbolism of that planet(s).  The upcoming Full Taurus Moon forms a Yod with iconoclast Uranus while both Uranus and the Moon TXT message Venus, now moving forward.  Venus receives the Moon and Uranus like a bolt of lightening, emotionally charged, intuitive hunches, A~ha~~!  Light bulb awareness.

Chariklo:   Hidden passion, social causes, unsympathetic to traditional roles, a healing, a therapy, represents the emancipation aspcts of the Lilith archetype, according to Juan Revilla.

Siva/Siwa: Hindu Lord of Destruction, wrath or rage of pent up energy, feed from attachment or insistence, suspicions, union of knowledge, compassion, poignant experiences, transform the body, liberation, transformation of sexual consciousness, destroyer of personality-bound concepts, radical change, breakthroughs, snake incidents, the Far East: China, Vietnam, Korea, India, Japan, and Malaysia according to Martha Lang-Wescott.

Toliman: According to Ptolemy it is of the nature of Venus and Jupiter; and, to Alvidas, of Mars with the Moon and Uranus in Scorpio. It gives beneficence, friends, refinement and a position of honor. (Robson).

Lachesis: the 2nd fate, the "measurer", evaluator, fated experiences, sequence must run its course, interruptions altering plans, someone didn't do something to intervene, one must do something and not wait any longer, according to Martha Lang-Westcott.

Pallas Athene: Pallas Athene, Minerva (Roman), the Greek Goddess of Wisdom, sprang from Zeus’s (Jupiter) head fully formed and cloaked in armor. She symbolizes a woman with the intellect of a man. Because she was borne of man and not woman she is symbolic of a “Uranian” type of matriarchal energy.

Click here for more on warrior goddess Pallas Athene

29 degrees of Taurus is the Pleiades, the Weeping Sisters and is associated with "something to cry about", tears, or eye problems.  Where it is found in the chart may show an ambitious, ruthless, quarrelsome, manipulative, individual possessing a high level of intelligence. According to Fixed Star expert Diana Rosenberg, eye and hearing problems, bereavement, tears, intense sexuality, sexual problems or anomalies, cross-dressing; fires, shipwrecks, air crashes, attacks, forced evacuation, banishment, exile, imprisonment, murder, assassination, devastation but also rescues; use of tear gas; weeping, tears, rain (rains and storms) have been associated with the Pleiades." The Native American Indian plight, The "Trail of Tears", comes to mind. The upcoming Full Moon is closely linked to sharing Pleiades energy.

☆♥*♥☆Scorpio/Taurus Relationships☆♥*♥☆

by Lorraine Valente

The Scorpio/Taurus Ascendant/Descendant
Relationship Axis (1st house/7th house)

Hello Cosmic Cohorts!

So many people inquisitively want to know whether or not they are astrologically compatible with a new boyfriend, girlfriend or partner. Many clients inquire about what they feel is a past life or karmic relationship. Knowing your partners 7th house cusp (the relationship house) and the ruler of that house indicates the type of partner you may attract or are attracted to and the method of relating within a relationship.

The Ascendant, or Rising sign, is the sign rising on the horizon at the time of birth. This is the face we show the world, our “mask” for which our Sun hides behind. This is our outer personality, temperament and disposition as well as how we experienced our early home environment. It's the way others see us and also gives a hint of our physical appearance. The ruler of the Ascendant and the aspects (connections to other planets in your birth chart) further delineate and define your physical appearance. Most often Scorpio Rsing folks sharp or pointed features and penetrating, hypnotic eyes.

The Descendant, or 7th house cusp, its ruler and the aspects it makes in your birth chart, is symbolic of the type of partner you are attracted to. The 7th house is the house of all partnerships including marriage and legal contracts yet also considered the house of open enemies or the Defendant in a law suit.

Scorpio has a dual planetary rulership and shares a dynamic astrological symbolism. The ancient planetary ruler for Scorpio is assertive, warrior Mars, while the modern planetary ruler is transformative and regenerative Pluto. Pluto contacts are compelling, to say the least. Pluto ruled Scorpio is intense, private, penetrating and sexually alluring. If your Ascendant is in the sign of Scorpio, you're generally private, discreet, intuitively and automatically interpret nuances. The intensity and directness of the eyes or gaze are unrivalled. Scorpio Rising individuals could challenge anyone in a staring contest and not blink an eye!

With Venus ruled Taurus on the descendant you seek an affable, loving, charming, graceful and attractive partner. Attraction to a partner with those qualities who is artistic, creative, musical, sociable, loving, stable, sensitive, “earthy”, practical and sensual is likely. A male with Scorpio Rising would seek a feminine, deeply sensual and monogamous partner who is both reliable and somewhat predictable. A Scorpio Rising woman, although she seeks the same qualities as the male, the partner she may be attracted to could be more sensitive, in touch with their “yin” nature or even “prettier” than other males. The person would have strong personality, trustworthy, sensitive, dependable, sensual and hard working.

If you have a Scorpio Ascendant/Rising, knowing your partners Venus placement and the aspects it makes, will reveal much about how he/she will treat you in your relationship and how they will act in that relationship with you! Venus is what we value and are attracted to. In a man’s chart, the qualities of his Venus sign reveals the type of partner he's attracted to and values, while Mars demonstrates how he pursues who he's attracted to, and how he will “sex” his partner (along with other aspects). Oooo, isn't that an exciting bit of information to know :-)  In a female chart, Mars is symbolic of her ideal masculine image, and what turns her on while her Venus placement reveals the qualities of the partner she's attracted to and values.

It's also possible for a Scorpio Ascendant to attract a partner who has Venus prominent in their chart. A prominent Venus would be in aspect to the Sun, Moon, Mars, or elevated in conjunction to the MC or conjunct or ruling their Ascendant (Libra/Taurus) or Descendant (Libra/Taurus) or Sun sign (Taurus/Libra).

Knowing the date, time and place of birth is important in making the determination of the Ascendant or Rising sign, the sign rising on the horizon at the time of birth. This cusp sets up all the other house cusps/divisions of the houses or areas of life.  If you'd like to share your own Scorpio relationship stories, post a response.
