The Star~17 XVII~Symbolic of Aquarius

In the Rider Waite version, the body of a naked woman holding an urn in each hand is shown. One urn pours water onto the land (material world) while the other urn is poured into a pool of water (spirituality). One of her feet is planted firmly on the ground while the other grazing the surface of the pool. Her nakedness symbolizes acceptance of her self, while the pouring of water symbolizes the quest for balancing both spiritual and material needs.

Card 17 reduced, equals the number 8. Eight is the number of power and authority signifying success and material fortune. Above her head are 8 stars; 7 smaller stars and one large bright star in the center. Stars symbolize the guiding light within; an intuitive understanding that we're protected “Under the Stars”. There's a need to see the light within ourselves and to be “enlightened”. So that this occurs, let go of inhibitions (nakedness) and open yourself up to your own truth.  Shine your light!

Negatively, and each tarot cards offers both a positive and negative polarity influence, The Star reversed is interpreted as shutting off spirituality or love for another. Perhaps too much self-love becomes a narcissistic focus.  It may be a person always searching or looking towards the distant Star or a long-lost or idealistic love. Then the need to stop dreaming and “manifest” the desired reality is the message. We do this by permitting the “natural” flow of emotions to thaw, rather than having them freeze up. Sometimes emotions are frozen as a defense mechanism, so that no one will hurt us.

The Symbol of “The Star” may appear in a reading during a time when spiritual or emotional healing is necessary and to see the purity and good under the light of the shining stars above. As above, so below…the stars above mirror the light within all.

The Tower Card~Number XVI~16~Uranus

 The Tower card in the Tarot is card #16 and symbolizes sudden destruction in our lives. The lightening bolts striking the crown of the tower represents sudden change and events that are unexpected and unprepared for. Change often inspires growth and transformation after reality sets in.  Acceptance and reorientation to these changes and challenges is important.  Realize the status quo is an “illusion” we create. Nothing remains the same.

The Tower is typically symbolic of the planet Mars, yet I also equate this card with Uranus’ electrical, lightening bolt response and the impact of sudden awareness in the psyche. It’s the “a-ha” card in the Tarot deck.

Uranus transits or if it's significantly placed in the chart, you may experience nervous energy and events may suddenly and unexpectedly unfold in your life.  Shock is another meaning of The Tower.  Discovering your partner is having an affair, the sudden loss of a job or a person is shocking.  With the loss of a job, there is loss of income and the trickle down effect on every area of life.  With the loss of a relationship such as in divorce, there may be a loss of identity.  When a marriage ends, you become "single" and no longer a "husband" or "wife".  Identity changes.  The heart chakra shuts down, closes up as a self protective measure.  Intentional and deliberate undermining or jealousy is symbolic of Tower.  Reaching a breaking point and decision making are other possibilities. The truth can set you free!

When The Tower appears in a reading, the truth is exposed, sometimes with life shattering consequences. Oftentimes it will appear in a relationship reading to shed light or reveal the “reality” of a situation through crisis. It signifies insight or a heightened awareness after a painful experience. A relationship may end or drastically change course. After the September 11 (911) events, drawing the Tower reminded me of the horror and pain of that day. We are often caught off guard and shocked when the Tower appears.

☆♥*♥☆ STRENGTH~Number VIII~Leo☆♥*♥☆

In The Tarot deck, card #8  is symbolic of the sign of Leo. This card presents a lovely, peaceful, generous (naked in some decks) woman standing, bowing, over a Lion. She is stroking his regal mane, as he appears to be purring like a little kitten!! :-) The Lion is unafraid and trusting. This IS Leo! The King of the Jungle can be tamed if you stroke his fur in the right direction. Have you ever pet a real kitty’s fur in the wrong direction? They look at you in such away as to imply “HOW DARE YOU!!!” “I am the King or Queen and I expect to be treated the same!”  Puleeeeese don’t fluff my fur the wrong way!

The Strength card represents unadulterated strength, determination, and power. However, this card presents a gentle woman, unarmed and without protective armor (unlike the Chariot in card #7 which is “outer strength and will”). She overcomes the lion with her quiet strength; power emanating from within. Strength is symbolic of the inner power of the human spirit to overcome crises, blocks, and obstacles.

Often reflective of calming the beast within, Strength symbolizes psychotherapy. CArd number 8, which is essentially female, aligns her intuition to keep the lion (our unconscious desires) calm and in control. The lion in this card is also symbolic of courage to encounter powerful forces, placing fear aside, and to claim our own power.

When Strength appears in a reading, creative thinking, speaking with honesty and truthfulness are combined to promote the ego and ethical behavior. Taming passions, courage, determination, generosity and having an open heart are indicated.

Negatively (reverse), domination, lack of control, wasting time and self indulgence would be possibilities.
